Girl"] (Each Day I Cry)
- Japan 1963, 114 min., B&W
Director:
Starring:
- IZUMI Masako
- HAMADA Mitsuo
Notes:
- Director URAYAMA Kiriro was recognised for his cinematic
skills and social vision when he made his first film
"Kyupora no aru machi" (Cupola, where the
Furnaces Glow) in 1962, with YOSHINAGA Sayuri in the
leading role. Each Day I Cry is his second work, the
story of two young people struggling against their
environment, and against the misunderstanding and malice
of others, to find the meaning of life. The film takes
the point of view of the youth, her expressive range of
anger, joy and grief. The setting is in the early 60's in
Kanazawa and Uchinada in Ishikawa Prefecture. The film
was nominated a gold prize at the Moscow International
Film Festival.
- After this film, however, URAYAMA parted with the
Nikkatsu Studio, and had to wait six years to make his
third film, "Watashi ga suteta onna" (The Girl
I Abandoned). He worked at rare intervals, and when he
died in 1985 had made only nine films.
